Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Faux or Decorative Finish?
Faux Finishing is a common term that actually encompasses many different types of decorative finishes. Those finishes may range from simple glazes to faux stonework to elegant multi-layered European plasters. Confused? No worries! Tesoro Designs will help you select a finish that best creates the look and feel you desire in your space. Contact us to find out how.
How much does it cost?
A professional finish will cost four to six times more than it would to paint a room a solid color. Typical professional prices in the DFW area begin at $2.00 per square foot. Decorative finishes require extensive surface preparation and are hand applied by trained artisans using professional quality products. These finishes are frequently layered, therefore requiring multiple passes around the room. Understandably, that translates to a higher cost.
Do you charge a fee for the initial consultation?
Yes, we charge a $50 non-refundable fee to come out to your site. However, that entire amount will be applied to the cost of the job in the event that you hire us. Your initial consultation will include a comprehensive color consultation, access to our extensive portfolio of professional finishes and our assistance in selecting appropriate finishes for your space. A consultation generally takes one hour. Due to the thoroughness of the consultation, we prefer to limit ourselves to 1 or 2 rooms per one hour consultation.
Alternatively, you may contact Jennifer at 469-362-9604 to setup a free consultation in our Frisco studio to explore your creative options.

The guys at the paint counter told me it was easy. Why should I hire someone when I can save the money and do it myself?
That's up to you! When you hire Tesoro Designs, you hire professionally trained artists who use high-quality materials that are not available to DIY'ers. Our decades of combined experience can make it appear easy to do. But successful finishes are rarely easy to execute, nor achieved without some form of instruction. If you just LOVE the idea of trying it yourself, consider signing up for one of our workshops.
Aren't "Faux Finishes" going out of style?
No, but the word "Faux" is. Decorative painting has existed for centuries, it just wasn't called "Faux Finishing" back then. Interior trends come and go. What is never out of style is a beautifully executed, artistic finish that complements your taste and the architecture of your home. Whether country or contemporary is the hottest trend of the moment, there will always be a suitable decorative paint treatment to complement it. So while "Faux" may be a big "NO", decorative painting will never go away.
But my designer said wallpaper is back.
Yes, it is. Some say, much like professional quality decorative finishes, high-end wallpaper never went out of style. Wallpaper and beautiful paint treatments coexist beautifully in a space, so why choose? Have both!
